Policy Viewpoints Guidelines
Jeffrey W. Seifert, Associate Editor for Policy Viewpoints

The Journal of Information Technology and Politics (JITP) publishes articles that have a specific focus on policy issues at the nexus of information technology and politics. Such papers should combine theory and practice, and ideally, a policy viewpoints submission should be of interest to both the academic and practitioner communities. Submissions may focus on long standing issues as well as emerging issues created by the development of new technologies, the convergence of technologies, or the application of existing technologies under new circumstances. Papers should identify a policy problem, provide an analysis of the context and implications of the issue, and when possible, discuss potential policy solutions informed by scholarly and practitioner analysis. The author(s) should explore competing perspectives and make appropriate use of citations, as would be used in a standard research paper. Submissions should be approximately 10-25 double-spaced pages in length.

The range of issues that could be considered is essentially boundless. Some potential topics include, but are not limited to, telecommunications reform, privacy, information security, e-government, homeland security, nanotechnology, digital inequalities, government IT management, intellectual property rights, content controls, outsourcing, and critical infrastructure protection. Submissions can focus on issues at the local, state/provincial, national, or global levels. Comparative analyses and case studies are also welcomed.

The editors regard submission of a manuscript to JITP as an implied commitment by the contributors not to submit their paper to another publication while it is under consideration by this journal.
